Released in October 2014, Motion was a monster record for Calvin Harris. Hitting the top five in the UK and US, it’s been certified platinum in 8 countries! Featuring collaborations with some huge names, we’re celebrating a decade of this massive record by revisiting some of its essential cuts.
Summer
The second single from Motion, Calvin took the lead vocal on this sunbeam of a banger, winning him his sixth UK number one. Nominated for British single and video at that year’s Brits, the accompanying clip features action star Jason Statham drag-racing Calvin in the desert.
Blame (feat. John Newman)
John Newman originally approached Calvin on Twitter to ask if he’d like to collaborate. He shared a demo, which Calvin used to create this huge hit. A global smash in 2014, it broke Spotify’s records for the most-streamed song in a single day and the first to break ten-million streams in one week.
Outside (feat. Ellie Goulding)
This massive single was Calvin’s second time collaborating with Ellie Goulding and acts as a sequel to their 2012 single I Need Your Love. Certified multi-platinum in nine countries, it also went diamond in Mexico and Brazil. Released just before the album, this huge bop certainly kept Motion on a roll!
Under Control (feat. Alesso & Hurts)
Working with Swedish DJ Alesso, Calvin brought in Theo Hutchcraft from British duo Hurts for this UK number one, their first time atop the chart and Calvin’s fifth! All three musicians united for the video, hosting a free party for fans in LA as a meteor headed for the earth. Thankfully, the only thing to explode was the chorus.
Pray to God (feat. HAIM)
Riding high from the success of their debut album, LA sisters HAIM switched their rock-roots for house beats on this biblical collaboration. Calvin has said that it was HAIM who initiated working together, even bringing in their producer at the time, Ariel Rechtshaid, to add his touch to the track.
