In hindsight, this meeting of singer Bonnie Tyler and songwriter Jim Steinman was always going to be a monsterous global success.
Released in 1983, ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’ was such a massive hit that at one point it was selling a staggering 60,000 copies a day – roughly equivalent to a sold out Wembley Arena crowd buying five each.
Little wonder that it hit the top slot in the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa.
This iconic video was overseen by future ‘Highlander’ director Russell Mulcahy and was shot on location at the Holloway Sanatorium, a huge Victorian hospital in Surrey.
In 2012, former Italian footballer Gianfranco Zola quashed the long-running urban myth that he appeared in the video and shook Bonnie’s hand at the end. But it sure does look like him!
