Our Album of The Month for September is ‘Screamadelica’, the third studio album from Primal Scream. The album was actually released 30 years ago on 23rd September, 1991!
Here’s a couple of things you may or may not already know about the ‘Screamadelica’ album:
– ‘Screamadelica’ was the third album released by Scottish rock band Primal Scream and it peaked at #8 on the Official UK Chart.
– ‘Screamadelica’ spawned the hits, ‘Movin’ on Up’, ‘Loaded’ and ‘Come Together’.
– The album became the winner of the first ever Mercury Prize Award in 1992, helping the band sell 650,000 copies of the record.
– The artwork for the album was painted by Paul Cannell who was inspired by a damp water spot he’d seen on the ceiling after taking LSD.
– Lead singer of Primal Scream, Bobby Gillespie spoke to Vice last month about the importance of ‘Screamadelica’: “It feels amazing to have made an album that when you walk into a record store then you see it up on the wall along with albums like ‘Ziggy Stardust’, ‘Transformer’, and ‘Never Mind the Bollocks.'”
