Album of The Month: Music Box Mariah Carey

August 31, 2021

Introducing our new Album of The Month feature where we select one album to be our album of the month.

Kicking things off with our first Album of The Month is none other than ‘Music Box’ the iconic third studio album from Mariah Carey. Which was actually released on this day in 1993! Here’s a couple of things you may or may not already know about the timeless ‘Music Box’ album:

– With the exception of the Badfinger cover, ‘Without You’, Mariah co-wrote and co-produced every song on the album.

– ‘Music Box’ spawned the worldwide hits, ‘Dreamlover’, ‘Hero’, ‘Without You’, and ‘Anytime You Need a Friend’.

– The album marked Mariah’s first #1 Album on the Official UK Chart. It first hit #1 on the 11th September 1993 and then again on the 26th February 1994 (where it stayed at the top for 5 consecutive weeks!).

– The album topped the charts in fourteen different countries and remains one of the best-selling albums in history, with reportedly over 30 million copies sold.

– ‘Music Box’ was the second-best selling album in the United States in 1994. After selling ten million copies, it not only became certified Diamond by the RIAA but it also became Mariah’s best-selling album at the time (Daydream is her first in the USA). However, ‘Music Box’ is Mariah’s best-selling album worldwide, having moved more than 32 million copies globally.
