This month’s Artist Spotlight focuses on the iconic trio Destiny’s Child who released their self-titled debut album on this day in 1998. Here are a few facts you may not know about the girl group…

– Kelly Rowland has said that ‘Say My Name’ is her favourite Destiny’s Child song. She said “It was so much fun to record and we crossed over with that song into a whole new and it was amazing for us”.

– The song ‘Survivor’ was inspired by a joke that a radio station had made about the fact that three members had already left the group comparing the band to the reality game show Survivor.

– ‘Bills, Bills, Bills’ was the group’s first number 1 hit and Beyonce was just 17 when they recorded it.

– In 2021, the song resurged on TikTok where it became the most popular ‘comeback’ track in the UK that year.

– ‘Independent Women’ was featured in the movie ‘Charlie’s Angels’; the star of the film- Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu- are mentioned in the song.
