Released in February 2015, Piece by Piece is Kelly Clarkson’s seventh album and her third to debut at number one on the US Billboard chart! An epic concept album, it won her 3 Grammy nominations. We’re celebrating its 10th anniversary with these 5 essential tracks…
Heartbeat Song
A rush of pulsing synth pop, it’s the opening track and lead single from Piece by Piece. Kelly chose to premiere it in the UK on the BBC’s Graham Norton Show. Nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2016 Grammy Awards, she used her own baby’s heartbeat as the actual beat of the track!
Invincible
The second single from Piece by Piece, this empowering anthem was recorded by Kelly while she was pregnant with her daughter. Co-written by Sia after Kelly covered her track Breathe Me on tour, the recording also features the Australian singer on uncredited backing vocals!
Run Run Run
Kelly reunited with John Legend for this captivating ballad. The pair had previously worked together as mentors on the US TV show Duets in 2012. The song was originally by three writers including Aussie artist Ry X, with a different version recorded in 2014 by the German rock band Tokio Hotel.
Piece by Piece
The album’s title track, this poignant heartbreaker tells a story of learning to trust. Kelly later revealed she sees it as a happy ending to Because of You. She performed an emotional rendition on American Idol, receiving a standing ovation. A live version was included on the record’s deluxe version.
Dance With Me
Penned by the writer Dan Rockett as a David Bowie and Lady Gaga inspired call to the dancefloor, he originally sent it to Kelly in 2012. Kelly wanted all the songs on Piece by Piece to resonate like a movie soundtrack, and this soar of cinematic pop firmly fit the brief!!
