Come and meet the men and women slaving tirelessly behind the scenes at Sony Legacy – this week it’s Marketing Assistant Sean Mackey…
What was the first record you ever bought?
I didn’t really have an income when I was younger so it was more a case of records being bought for me. I distinctly remember playing Franz Ferdinand to death when that came out; the same can be said for Arctic Monkeys’ debut record as well.
On the flip side, I remember my mum buying ‘Songs About Jane’ by Maroon 5, stealing it and listening to that on repeat.
Who is your favourite Sony artist and what is your favourite Song/Album by them?
Has to be Foo Fighters, I mean my tattoos are based on Dave Grohl/Foo Fighters. It’s so hard to choose my favourite album by them. It’s either ‘There Is Nothing Left To Lose’ or ‘Wasting Light’.
Both filled with tune after tune and they’re monumental to hear live and scream back at Mr Grohl. Favourite song is ‘Everlong’ without a doubt. Every time I hear that riff, it still floors me and gives me shivers.
What’s the best gig you’ve been to? Or what was the first gig you went to?
Best gig I’ve ever been to has to be Kanye at Koko. Yes, I was one of the lucky ones. The gig went down in history for basically who showed up. You had Big Sean, Boy Better Know, Wu Tang Clan’s Raekwon, Novelist, I mean the list is huge.
There was no ranting from the man himself just a plethora of great guests, great music and unparalleled energy from every corner of the room. I still get chills thinking about it…
First gig I ever went to was Arctic Monkeys at Wembley Arena when I was 15. My mum came with me and it totally changed my life. I’ve never been in a room with so many people and to hear the echoes of everyone singing my favourite songs was something I’ll never forget. I can’t go a few weeks without seeing live music now.
What’s your favourite album?
Wow where even to begin?! Here’s a list because I can’t name one:
There Is Nothing Left To Lose – Foo Fighters
99.9% – Kaytranada
White Ladder – David Gray
So Long Forever – Palace
Every Kingdom – Ben Howard
Channel Orange – Frank Ocean
Only By The Night – Kings of Leon
Rhythm And Repose – Glen Hansard
xx – The xx
If You Leave – Daughter
Any stories you’d like to share from your time working in music?
I am now a hat sourcing expert. I travelled up and around London to find Ray Davies a straw cowboy hat for a photo shoot and I managed to find two.
It was a proud day, it’s just a shame he didn’t use them…
