Originally planned as a Christmas special for NBC TV, Elvis Presley’s return to live performance after a hiatus of seven years was soon transformed into something far more spectacular.
The performance included sit-down and stand-up performances, but it’s with this stunning closing number that Elvis arguably defines the show.
Dressed in a white suit designed by Belew and standing in front of red letters spelling his name, Elvis pours his heart and soul into this timeless number.
Later released as a single, it sold more than 1m copies. And rightly so.
