One of the most powerful music videos of all time, ‘Hurt’ was shot just seven months before Johnny Cash’s passing in 2003.
Directed by Mark Romanek, this almost unbearably poignant video finds the Man In Black taking Nine Inch Nails’ source material and turning it something uniquely his own.
Interspersed with scenes of Cash in his prime, the images of the ageing singer surrounded by memorabilia gathered over the years serve to heighten the sense of mortality.
Little wonder that it won the MTV VMA for Best Cinematography and a Grammy for its director.
